SAA is proud and honored to have won the BIM/VDC GoldPlus Award at the BCA BIM Awards 2017 (Project Category) for the Northpoint City mixed-use development.
The implementation of the BIM-VDC (Building Information Modelling/Virtual Design Construction) initiatives for Northpoint City enhanced the overall efficiency right from the onset of project. Benefits of early BIM adoption were apparent from the design stage : the 3D BIM model helped facilitate a comprehensive pedestrian traffic simulation (using VISWALK) to evaluate the initial design effectively and accurately. This helped shorten the design process approval from LTA in achieving minimum level of service (no traffic congestion) for commuters travelling from Yishun MRT Station to future Yishun Bus Interchange. The BIM model was also essential in designing complex structures, such as the organic-shaped main entrance canopy along Yishun Ave 2. This also accelerated construction drawing production and increased the quality of off-site machinery fabrication of steel structure, glass and ETFE cushion.
Collaborative BIM/VDC has contributed efficiently to the realization of the highly complex, multi-stakeholder Northpoint City project; from inception & conceptualization to visualization & virtual planning and finally to execution on site & completion.
The Gold award winning projects will be featured in the Singapore Construction Productivity Week (SCPW) Exhibition BIM/VDC booth in Singapore Expo from 24 – 26 Oct 2017.
