Ascent is an integrated business and retail development at Singapore Science Park 1 (SSPARK1) – the hub for companies and organisations in Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation. Effective workspaces today transcend the needs of the hour and anticipate future needs for growing businesses. Therefore, Ascent sets the trend for a new generation of flexible workspaces for growing businesses.
With seven storeys of large contiguous workspaces and one retail block, Ascent moves away from independent workspaces to an integrated and interactive space that focuses on human-centric scale and design. Productivity is enhanced by making tenants feel more at home, encouraging play with work and providing views out to the natural surroundings.
The development incorporates landscaped spaces with the retail and lobby areas and also provides sheltered connectivity from the main road. Capitalising on its proximity to Kent Ridge Park, the campus-like environment encompasses lush green landscaped surroundings which stimulates creativity and collaboration.
The facade uses Building-Integrated Photovoltaic Technology (BIPV) to generate electricity, reducing solar gain and increasing energy efficiency. Ascent received BCA Green Mark Platinum certification for its environmental design and performance and is more than just any other workspace – it is a landmark of sustainability. The facade is also composed of two types of material – folded and flat aluminium with glazing which creates a unique pattern that plays with natural light to look different at various times of the day.
Ascent is not just intuitive but also responsive in how it adapts to both internal and external environments. From the detailed facade that acts as a passive energy generator for the facility, to a large contiguous design that helps facilitate easy movement within the building, the development is designed to be adaptable for usage by future generations.
