Located immediately south of the Singapore River and under New Bridge Road, this below-ground station provides access to a large catchment of Boat Quay, Merchant Road, North Canal Road, Hong Kong Street and Hong Lim Green.
This is one of the major stations within the City, which required detailed co-ordination with the adjoining developments at Merchant Street and Tew Chew Street.
The basic provisions of the station are similar to the other below-ground stations along the North East corridor. The station entrance located along Eu Tong Sen corner Singapore River is now integrated with the Central Mall.
The series of curve roof design of the entrances has been inspired by the water flowing in the Singapore River, and it takes the color scheme from the boats that ferries tourist and locals along the river. The interior of the station boast a panoramic artwork depicting the commercial importance of Clarke Quay as a commercial transport hub in the early days of Singapore.
