This is a major interchange station serving the largest industrial town of Jurong.  The interchange station is also integrated with a bus terminal providing service to various parts of Jurong and adjoining areas. Jurong East is the only above-ground station and it provides service to the City centre, Woodlands to the North and Boon Lay to the West.

The existing Jurong East MRT Station (JEM) is a three levels fully above ground station with 3 train tracts. The extension is the addition of a fourth tract to cater for an increase in passenger load.

This addition was treated as an “extension” rather than an “addition’ to the existing platform. Therefore, architecture design elements were designed to complement rather than contrast with the original “character” of the station. All the new structures were designed to blend-in with the existing context while some focal point areas were enhanced with spatial articulation to provide variety of the transition spaces throughout the station.
